National Assessment of Gun Violence Education in Social Work

Firearm injury & death is one of the most pressing public health issues in the United States, & social workers are frequently on the front lines: in schools, hospitals, community mental health settings, child welfare, & crisis response. Yet little is known about how consistently or how thoroughly social work education prepares students to recognize firearm risk, talk with clients about safety, &respond to the aftermath of gun violence in the communities they serve.

The National Assessment of Gun Violence Education in Social Work is a research study designed to answer that question. We are surveying faculty teaching in CSWE accredited BSW & MSW programs across the United States to build a comprehensive, national picture of the state of gun violence education in the US.
